| , Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Rodney Madagan, the founding partner of APTA, specializes in the treatment of back and neck pain. In addition, he has expertise in the treatment of shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and foot problems. For over 9 years, Rodney’s care has helped patients conquer chronic pain, recover from loss of function, and return to a healthy lifestyle. In addition to his clinical work, Rodney has continued to refine his orthopedic skills through post-graduate continuing education courses emphasizing evidence-based evaluation and treatment approaches. Furthermore, he has been welcomed in the offices of local orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons to enhance his clinical knowledge, and learn advanced patient management skills.
Rodney received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Mary Washington University. He received both his Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1999 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2006 from Shenandoah University. He plans to take the exam for specialty certification by the American Physical Therapy Association as an orthopedic clinical specialist. Rodney is a member of both the Private Practice and Orthopedic Specialty Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association. He is also an active member of the Virginia Physical Therapy Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
As a former collegiate athlete, Rodney regularly competes in local running events, cycling, mountain biking, tennis, hiking, and golf. He and his wife, local pediatrician Heidi Martinson, M.D. live in Albemarle County with their Labrador retriever “Austin.” |
| , Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified Athletic Trainer
Dr. Robyn Templeton earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Chapman University in Southern California. Her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with emphasis on Sports Medicine was earned at Radford University, where she graduated cum laude. Robyn’s background is mostly in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. As a Certified Athletic Trainer, she has years of experience working with collegiate and high school athletes in a variety of sports (soccer, basketball, lacrosse, softball/baseball, volleyball, track and field, tennis). She is currently participating in a year long orthopedic manual therapy course to stay current with the most up-to-date and evidence-based treatment techniques; and she plans to become an orthopedic clinical specialist.
Robyn grew up in Southern California and moved to Charlottesville in May, 2006 for its beautiful environment, friendly community, and vast recreational opportunities. Her interests include snowboarding, river trips, live music, hiking, going to the beach, and playing almost any sport. |

Melinda Smith grew up in Greene County, Virginia and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Piedmont Virginia Community College with an Associate in Science, Accounting Degree in 2004. She rapidly advanced within our practice to her position as an office manager. Currently, she helps with patient scheduling, insurance billing, and keeping the office running smoothly. Melinda lives in Greene County with her husband Jeff and her dog “LuLu.” Her son Daniel lives in Northern Virginia where he works in the defense industry. Melinda enjoys spending her free time with her family, working in her flower garden, and bird-watching. |
